Why teach Bible verses to small children? 

 

Bible memorization isn’t about showing how cute your little ones are when repeating Bible verses, nor is it a quick and easy way to “get” them into Heaven. However, the Bible instructs us (as parents) to teach and explain the Word of God every day to our children. It's our responsibility!

Scripture memorization with your children

 

1. It increases their chances of following Christ - There are NO guarantees but do not be discouraged. Although it is not guaranteed our children will follow Christ, by giving them a solid foundation, we can increase the odds that they do. Keep in mind you are not teaching your children a neat trick and neither merely preparing them to be “good” Christians. The primary purpose is salvation.

2. It is a source of wisdom- 2. Timothy 3:15-16 says that Scriptures are a source of wisdom to lead us to become complete and useful servants of the Lord.

3. It is the way of maintaining purity- We all desire our children remain pure in their hearts and bodies. Psalms 119: 9-11 reveal the path “by storing God’s words in our hearts” v. 11.
